On the front of the Memorial are the names of those who died in the Great War 1914-18 (now called World War I). The names of those who died in the second World War (1939-45) were inscribed on the rear of the Great War memorial. There were fewer names not only because fewer british soldiers died but also because mining was a reserved occupation, so many from Bedlinog would not have been permitted to join the armed forces.
