Thomas Ronald Steer

Thomas Ronald Steer, known as Ron, was one of 14 children of Tom and Mari Steer. His Eldest brother David William Steer died in the First World War and is also commemorated on this memorial. In 1901 and 1911 the family were living at 4 Glynbargoed Road in Trelewis. He was in the Royal Navy and died when he was returning home from convalescence in South Africa on the Laconia when it was torpedoed by a U-boat and the survivors, having been rescued by the U-boat, were bombed by the USAF.
